The electoral assembly was chaired by anthropologist Virgílio Coelho, who was acting chairman of the electoral commission. The new board of directors is made up of sociologist Paulo de Carvalho (chairman), historian Cornélio Caley (vice-chairman) and writer António Quino (secretary-general).

Sociologist José Octávio Serra Van-Dúnem assumes the presidency of the scientific council and linguist Maria Helena Miguel as a member, with Irene Guerra Marques and José Mena Abrantes as substitutes.

The fiscal council includes Carmo Neto (president), Aníbal Simões (rapporteur) and Fátima Viegas (secretary). The inauguration of the elected bodies is scheduled for the 18th of this month.

Founded in 2016, the Angolan Academy of Letters recently admitted new members, currently comprising 50 members, including the patron, the First President of Angola, António Agostinho Neto (in memoriam).

Paulo de Carvalho said in statements that these new members will bring more momentum to the thematic diversification of AAL’s activities. “We have an area in deficit, which is linguistics, where we still need more specialists, because it is a field in which we have to intervene”, he acknowledged.

The president of the AAL raised the possibility of admitting more members during his term, despite acknowledging that it is a very selective organization.
