Africa-Press – Angola. Peasants from the communes of Longa, Baixo-Longa, Lupiri and the municipal headquarters of Cuito Cuanavale, in Cuando Cubango province, are receiving three- and two-wheeled motorcycles, under the Participatory Budget, to facilitate the flow of rural products.
The first motorcycles were delivered by the deputy governor for the Political, Social and Economic sector, Helena Chimena, who said that one of the objectives is to make corn, massango, massambala, onion, among other products, deteriorate in the cultivation areas, for lack of means to facilitate the flow.
Joaquim Vitonde, representative of Fazenda Vitonde, in the commune of Longa, said that the three-wheeled motorcycle he received will help a lot in the flow of products, as well as reduce the expenses he had previously with the rental of transport for this purpose.
“I thank the Government for the gesture, which will help me and other farmers in the Longa commune to transport the products we cultivate and increase production, because now we can take corn, onions, massango and reindeer potatoes to the main markets. of Menongue,” he said.
In addition to the motorbikes, zinc sheets, chests, stoves, gas cylinders and deep fryers were delivered, with the aim of encouraging self-construction and self-employment, within the scope of the program to combat hunger and poverty, as well as school coats, backpacks and shoes, vulnerable children.
During her stay for a few hours in the municipality of Cuito Cuanavale, the deputy governor for the Political, Social and Economic Sector also delivered a mill to the population of the Kambaamba neighborhood, who traveled long distances to the municipal seat, with the aim of transform bombó, corn and massango into fuba, for own consumption and for commercialization.
Social impact actions
The municipal administrator of Cuito Cuanavale, Daniel Alfredo, said that this is the second time that the municipality has benefited from the 25 million kwanzas from the Participatory Budget, which were used to carry out social impact actions.
Daniel Alfredo explained that, with the amounts received last year, it was possible to build a mill and a water hole, with the capacity to pump over 1,000 liters of water a day.
He added that, in addition to the construction of the aforementioned social facilities, the amounts received have helped to assist citizens in vulnerable situations, who have been supported with basic necessities.
He explained that the selection of projects carried out and to be carried out was preceded by several consultation meetings, which allowed the definition of priority issues, for the improvement of the quality of life in the communities.
Local development
The deputy governor for the Political, Social and Economic Sector explained that the Participatory Budget comes within the scope of strengthening democracy in Angola, institutionalized through Presidential Decrees no 234/19 and 235/19, for the development of municipalities, communes, villages and neighborhoods across the country.
According to Helena Chimena, local development is above all a common desire to improve the quality of life in communities, solving various problems that afflict the population.
“This initiative is of great value, because its main objectives are to execute projects proposed by the citizens”, concluded the deputy governor for the Political, Social and Economic Sector of Cuando Cubango.
