Africa-Press – Angola. The Pedro Maria Tonha”Pedalé” Hospital Complex (CHPMT), on Monday in Luanda carried out the first minimally invasive cerebral vascular treatment in Angola.

According to a press release from the health unit, the medical team performed a treatment of brain aneurysm and vascular malformations using Intervention Neuroradiology techniques.

It is a technique that uses small incisions and specialized instruments to access and treat brain vascular lesions.

This approach offers several advantages, including lower risk of complications, reduced hospitalization time, faster recovery, less pain and discomfort for the patient.

The procedure, led by the Brazilian neuroradiologist, who is also the honorary chair of the Association of Brazil of Neuroradiology, Carlos Freitas, was attended by the head of the Neurosurgery services of CHPMT, Wilson Teixeira and the head of the Radiology services of the same hospital, Celestino Delgado.

“This historic landmark is the result of collaboration between national and international experts and marks the beginning of a major project in the treatment of neurological diseases in the country”, reads the note.

It states that treatment of brain pathologies is fundamental to public health in Angola given that stroke is one of the main causes of death and disability in the country.

“Cerebral vascular pathologies, such as aneurysms and vascular malformations, are serious conditions that affect the blood vessels of the brain. If not treated, they can lead to serious complications, including brain bleeding and death”, the note underlines.

In implementing this treatment, CHPMT becomes a national reference center for the treatment of neurological diseases, offering hope and quality of life for thousands of Angolans.

The document also highlights that CHPTM intends to further develop and improve the treatment of cerebral vascular pathologies, with the training of healthcare professionals and the acquisition of state-of-the-art equipment.

In addition, the institution will launch in the coming days an awareness campaign to educate the population about the risks and symptoms of cerebral vascular disease.

The Pedro Maria Tonha Hospital “Pedalé” (CHPTM) is a reference health unit in Angola, equipped with state-of-the-art technology to treat serious diseases, including stroke.
