Africa-Press – Angola. The Attorney General’s Office (PGR) considered the recent mission to Switzerland by the Attorney General of the Republic, Hélder Pitta Gróz, to take steps with that State, within the framework of the recovery of assets located there in favor of the Angolan State.
The fact was reiterated to journalists, this Friday, in Cacuaco (Luanda), by the director of the PGR’s Institutional Communication Office, Álvaro da Silva João, on the sidelines of a lecture on “The Legal Regime for Asset Recovery in Angola: Management of Assets and Arrears until the Judicial Decision of Forfeiture”.
Álvaro da Silva João, also a public prosecutor, clarified that the Attorney General of the Republic traveled to Switzerland to establish contacts with that State, in order to request the recovery of assets located in that country.
He explained that this involves legal mechanisms in Switzerland, and that it is necessary for a sentence from the Angolan State to be recognized in this Swiss country to decide on the delivery of these assets.
“When we talk about delivering these goods, it doesn’t mean that you go and get them, give me what you have and I’ll bring it back to my country. Things don’t really work that way”, he clarified.
“In our statement we were very clear that the important thing is that these assets pass into the State’s patrimonial sphere. This involves negotiations, because due to the volume of assets based there, withdrawing them abruptly creates imbalances in the other economy”, he added.
Noting that no one wants to weaken their economy, he added that there are mechanisms to recover these assets without them coming directly to Angola, but passing into their patrimonial sphere and being available to use them.
He reported, on the other hand, that there is no slowdown in the recovery of assets, as situations arise and are being treated with the same dynamics.
