The Deputy Attorney General of the Republic and coordinator of the Southern Judiciary Region, Hernâni Beira Grande, stressed on Saturday, in the municipality of Curoca, southern Cunene province, the need to strengthen mechanisms to allow greater approximation of the institution’s services to the communities.
Speaking at a consultation meeting with the members of the Council for Social Dialogue in the municipality of Curoca, he said that the intention is to extend the activities of the justice bodies, in order to be closer to the citizens.
He argued that in the region where there are no prosecutorial services there is a tendency for serious crimes to be committed that go unpunished, as well as acts of justice by one’s own hands.
“Where there is no constant prosecutor, there are many problems and the traditional authorities have certainly played their role with the communities, as well as the National Police itself”, he underlined.
The Deputy Attorney General recalled the existence of Laws that regulate the operation of traditional authorities, the police, judges, among others, with the PGR overseeing all this action, in favor of safeguarding the interests of the citizen and the State.
In this regard, he stressed that consultation actions are being carried out in all municipalities in Cunene province, in order to hear concerns from community leaders and administrative authorities and raise citizens’ legal awareness.
The intention, according to the coordinator, is to mobilize them in order to raise their levels of knowledge and have a culture of denouncement.
For his part, the municipal administrator of Curoca, Manuel Domingos Taby , requested the permanent activity of the Public Ministry services in the district, in order to guarantee legality and access to justice by the citizen.
According to the Administrator, the services of the PGR will guarantee the right of defendants and defendants, with regard to cases of preventive detention.
Currently, the services of the PGR in Curoca are developed through the municipality of Cahama.
He calmly considered the criminal situation, pointing out the theft and theft of cattle and goats as the most frequent crimes.
With a universe of 51,781 inhabitants, the municipality of Curoca is 333 kilometers from Ondjiva, administratively divided into two communes Oncócua and Chitado and 79 villages.
