Africa-Press – Angola. The deputy director general of the National Statistics Institute (INE), Hernani Luís, assured in the city of Cuito (Bié), that the Pilot Census in the country is taking place without any constraints, as a result of the support given by the Executive and reception of census takers by the population.
This phase of the census has been taking place since July 19 in seven provinces in Angola, namely Bié, Cuando Cubango, Luanda, Bengo, Cunene, Lunda Norte and Uíge.
Speaking to local journalists, after holding a courtesy meeting with the provincial governor, Pereira Alfredo, the person in charge of INE, without giving figures, considered the balance taken so far positive, in which more than 500 different professionals are involved.
As for Bié, where it takes place in the communes of Cachingues (Chitembo) and Cuanza (Camacupa), the Deputy Director General of INE highlighted the support that the Government of this region has been providing, which will ensure compliance with the objectives of the authorities.
Meanwhile, the deputy governor for the Political, Social and Economic sector of this province, Alcida de Jesus Camatele Sandundo, reiterated the Government’s support for the success of this Pilot Census, with a view to allowing the collected samples to be representative for the General Census, from 2024.
Bié started with 50 census takers, who are working in the communes of Cachingues (Chitembo) and Cuanza (Camacupa), locations covered by the National Institute of Statistics (INE) for this phase.
In addition to the census takers, technical assistants, cartographers and computer scientists are involved, in a total of 65 elements.
Angola carried out the last population and housing census in 2014, in which the province of Bié cataloged one million 455 thousand 255 inhabitants.
