Africa-Press – Angola. The provincial command of the National Police (PN) in Cuando Cubango legalized 21 places for holding end-of-year parties, commonly known as “New Year’s Eve”, as well as two places for launching fireworks.

All parties and locations for launching fireworks are in Mengongue, the provincial capital, informed today, Sunday, the spokesperson for the provincial command, chief superintendent Augusto Tomás, at the end of the operational orientation training of the forces of defense and security, to guarantee order and public security during the New Year.

The event, which took place in the courtyard of the Rapid Intervention Police Unit, was led by the Delegate of the Ministry of the Interior and Commander of the PN of Cuando Cubango, Commissioner José Alberto Tchinhama “Russo”.

According to the spokesperson, as the “New Year’s Eve” festivities approach, the forces will intensify overt patrolling, by car and on foot, in communities, especially in neighborhoods where most crimes occur and where the population is concentrated, as well as in places planned for the launch of fireworks, to ensure people’s safety.

Therefore, he assured, the procedures that are required to ensure a favorable relationship between the citizen and the forces were reiterated to the staff, with a focus on more pedagogical, supportive and humanized work, as well as the proportional use of force, if necessary. .

On the other hand, he praised the collaboration of the population, especially in reporting criminals and cases that occur in the community, which has made it possible to prevent cases of crimes of offenses against physical integrity with fights that occur within the family, crimes against property, vandalization of public property and the use of citizens to commit crimes against defenseless people, especially children.

In this particular, he reported that, in recent weeks, two minors were sexually abused, by known people and members of their respective families, with the perpetrators already identified and arrested.

As ways to reverse the situation, he reported that in the communities, in addition to the usual numbers, devices are placed in the areas most prone to the occurrence of crimes or in the most inhospitable areas of the city, effective not only on a static basis.

Augusto Tomás assured that the staff are also carrying out community interaction work, with intensive and extensive patrolling and targeted searches, whenever there is a complaint about the occurrence of a criminal case, with the aim of reaffirming readiness for security New Year’s Eve.

“We have a positive assessment of Christmas, but some aspects of the festive context suggest that there will be some changes if proactive measures are not taken, especially in communication and interaction between police and citizens”, he highlighted.

Menongue with “calm” movement

The city of Menongue, capital of Cuando Cubango, has recorded, since the early hours of today, Sunday, a calm movement of people and vehicles, as a result of the intense rain that fell from Saturday afternoon until dawn.

At interprovincial transport stops, the scenario is pure calm, with very low numbers of customers and services, with the exception of MACON, which maintains regular services.
