Africa-Press – Angola. The National Police (PN) celebrates its 48th anniversary this Wednesday (28), with a focus on preserving peace, defending democratic legality, order, security and public tranquility, modernizing resources and training staff.
The prevention of delinquency, combating crime, investigation of crimes, preparatory investigation of cases, defense of democratic legality, private, collective and state property depend, to a certain extent, on the good performance of the PN, in close collaboration with other bodies of defenses and security.
In effect, the Executive is committed to capacity building, training and the modernization process of the various branches of this body assigned to the Ministry of the Interior, to meet present and future challenges.
During its existence, the National Police has experienced many vicissitudes, faced and overcome major challenges and, in recent years, has been making an effort to modernize and continually train its human resources, despite the financial situation that the country is going through.
Given the changes taking place in Angolan society, demographic growth and construction areas throughout the national territory, several challenges are imposed on the National Police, including improving working conditions, reducing corruption, increasing technical-scientific level and the installation of forensic laboratories.
In fact, many of the challenges and responsibilities, sometimes attributed to the National Police, belong to the entire society and must be “attacked” by all members of society, collectively and individually.
It is necessary for all members of society to contribute so that the work of the National Police has impact, usefulness and relevance in the lives of families, individuals and public and private institutions.
Historical route
National Police Day is celebrated every year on the 28th of February because it was on this date that, in 1976, the first President of Angola, António Agostinho Neto, presided, at the Mártires do Kapolo Police School, in Luanda, at the ceremony of oath of flag of 383 personnel.
Originating from the Public Security Police (PSP), a former corporation of the Portuguese colonial administration, the National Police has undergone a series of resizings since 1975, after National Independence, starting with the People’s Police Corps of Angola (CPPA).
As a result of the transformations carried out at the time with the integration of various police and non-police bodies, the CPPA became known as the Angola Police Corps (CPA) and subsequently, in 1983, became known as the National Police (Policia Nacional). PN), which remains to this day.
To mark the anniversary, the military corporation carried out several socio-cultural, sporting and recreational activities.
The central event of the PNA’s 48th anniversary festivities will take place at the Higher Institute of Police and Criminal Sciences “Osvaldo Serra Van-Dúnem”, under the presidency of the corporation’s general commander, general commissioner Arnaldo Manuel Carlos.
Before the main event, at 7:00 am, there will be the laying of a wreath at the Monument of the Unknown Soldier and, at the same time, at the Hospital Municipal do Zango 2, neonatal kits will be offered to the couple with babies born at midnight on February 28th.
Likewise, it is planned to hold a Gala in honor of the corporation’s commissioning officers who have retired.
