Africa-Press – Angola. The residents of the Dom Fernando Guimarães Kevano Centrality, in Ondjiva, Cunene province, won this Friday a new police station, to combat and prevent crime.

The police station, inaugurated by the governor of Cunene, Gerdina Didalelwa, as part of the commemorative day of the 4th of April, Day of Peace and National Reconciliation, aims to guarantee safety and tranquility to residents.

The building has an operating room, picket, commander’s office, Criminal Investigation Service (SIC), Attorney General’s Office (PGR), information register, female and male cells, dormitories, among others.

Its construction fits in with the various social amenities of the centrality, with a thousand T3 housing units incorporated in 165 buildings of two and four floors, with eight apartments each.

The project also includes the construction of 72 commercial stores, a children’s centre, a kindergarten, a health centre, primary schools with 24 classrooms and a secondary school, among others, budgeted at US$182.9 million.

Speaking on the sidelines of the act, the acting Police commander in Cunene, Deputy Commissioner Alberto Mutunga, said that the conditions are made available to the police to combat violators of the country’s laws.

He informed that the objective is to reinforce the capacity of intervention turned to the fight against robberies, in the neighborhoods of the city of Ondjiva, theft of cattle in the villages and the smuggling of fuel on the Angola/Namibia border.

In Cunene, theft and theft of cattle has been frequent, as in 2022, 598 head of cattle, of the 1,265 stolen, were recovered and returned to the owners.

Over the period, 2,211 different crimes were recorded, which resulted in the arrest of 1,487 presumed perpetrators, of which 40 are foreigners.

With an area of ​​77,213 square kilometres, Cunene has one million and 491 inhabitants, Cuanhama, Ombadja, Cahama, Namacunde, Cuvelai and Curoca.
