Africa-Press – Angola. Four provincial governors urged the National Police to reinforce the guarantee of the electoral process in Angola to be concluded next August, with the holding of general elections in the country.
These are José Carvalho da Rocha (Uíge), Norberto dos Santos “Kwata Kanawa” (Malanje), Adriano Mendes de Carvalho (Cuanza-Norte) and Pereira Alfredo (Bié), who took advantage of the celebrations of the 46th anniversary of the creation of the Police National, marked on the 28th of February, to encourage the effectives in order to raise the levels of preparedness for this civic and political challenge.
According to the governor of Uíge, the general elections constitute a great responsibility and challenge for the National Police, in guaranteeing public order and tranquility, as stated in the institution’s motto for this year.
“We need to continue to work so that we can maintain tranquility and security before, during and after the election”, he reinforced, while the provincial commander of the National Police in Uíge, Commissioner Monteiro Matias dos Santos, highlighted the actions underway so that nothing miss.
In a gesture of balance, he reported that in the last year 103 people died and 503 were injured, as a result of 510 road accidents recorded in the region, an increase of 111 accidents, 25 deaths and 43 injuries, compared to the previous period. He took advantage of the occasion to add the record of 998 crimes of a different nature, 585 less than the previous year.

In turn, the governor of Malanje, Norberto dos Santos “Kwata Kanawa”, advocated, on Monday, that the exercise of police activity must be based on respect for the freedoms and guarantees of citizens, in order to maintain public order and tranquility. .
During the intervention in the act alluding to the 46 years of the National Police, Kwata Kanawa urged the agents of the corporation to be guided by professionalism and selflessness in their daily activity, in favor of defending the State’s heritage, combating crime and road accidents.
Meanwhile, the commander of the National Police, Commissioner Timóteo Hilário, also asked for the participation of society, with a view to reducing the crime rate in the province. He said that acts of corruption will continue to be repressed in the corporation, by holding the perpetrators accountable, always bearing in mind that agents must serve as an example to society.
Readiness in the process
Adriano Mendes de Carvalho is convinced that the National Police in Cuanza-Norte will know how to dignify the institution, so he urged, in Ndalatando, that the levels of readiness of the effectives be raised, for the efficient guarantee of the electoral process.
The governor indicated that the next general elections will demand greater commitment from the forces of Order and Security and observance of the principles that govern the Democratic State and the Rule of Law. Bearing in mind the corporation’s role in maintaining public security, he stressed, staff should be committed to guaranteeing the protection of citizens in political acts and polling places.
In response, the provincial commander of Cuanza-Norte of the National Police, Commissioner António do Rosário Neto, reaffirmed the readiness of the personnel to guarantee security during the next general elections, scheduled for August. During the act, some staff posted in the last 12 months were distinguished with diplomas of merit.
Professionalism and pedagogy
The governor of Bié said, in Cuito, that it is necessary for the National Police to continue with its professional level, always maintaining authority and pedagogy, especially in this year of general elections.
According to Pereira Alfredo, the general elections in the country, scheduled for next August, should reflect the celebration of democracy for all and the Government relies on the Police and other similar bodies to maintain public order and tranquility to preserve peace.
