Politician highlights OMA’s role in rescuing moral values

Africa-Press – Angola. The second provincial secretary of the MPLA in Lunda-Sul, Octávio Alberto, praised, this Wednesday, in Saurimo, the role played by the Angolan Women’s Organization (OMA) in rescuing moral and civic values, in favor of the well-being of being with families.

When intervening in the provincial event commemorating the 62nd anniversary of the founding of the OMA, which is being celebrated the official stated that the MPLA will continue to count on the support of the women’s organization not only in mobilization, but also in defending the affirmation of women’s rights and in the search for solutions to the various problems that afflict this fringe of society.

For this reason, he encouraged OMA staff and activists to continue promoting actions that aim to encourage the population, especially youth, to adopt dignified and responsible behavior, with a view to contributing to the country’s development.

“We call on the OMA to reinforce lectures in schools, churches, markets and other places with a large population concentration on matters linked to sexual harassment, early pregnancy, street vending, domestic violence and HIV/AIDS, in order to discourage and combat these evils that sicken our society”, he highlighted.

For her part, the provincial secretary of OMA in Lunda-Sul, Maria Mabaia, recalled that, since its foundation, the organization has always fought for the emancipation of women, as well as for the education of families, which is why it will invest, in 2024, in programs to promote entrepreneurship and eradicate illiteracy, with the aim of lifting countless families out of poverty.

As part of the celebrations for OMA’s 62nd anniversary, lectures are planned in schools, visits to some of the organization’s leaders, sporting activities, among others.

OMA was founded in 1962 in Leopoldville, now the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), by a group of Angolan women, members of the philanthropic association, called “Kudiangó”.

The MPLA women’s organization celebrates its anniversary on January 10th, in honor of the co-founders Deolinda Rodrigues, Lucrécia Paim, Maria Eugénia, Teresa Afonso, Irene Cohen, Ruth Neto, among others.
