Africa-Press – Angola. The Port of Lobito handled 862,662,644 tons of various cargo in the first half of 2025, a 38 percent increase compared to the same period last year.

The figure was presented by Victorino Ângelo, director of the port institution’s Office of Studies, Planning, and Statistics (GEPE), during a workers’ meeting.

Container throughput also showed significant growth, rising from 9,263 TEUs to 12,868, an increase of 3,605 units.

Regarding ship handling, the port received 198 vessels, 24 more than in the same period in 2024.

In addition to cargo indicators, the meeting highlighted measures to improve the efficiency and competitiveness of the port infrastructure.

Among the initiatives undertaken are the installation of a data center, the execution of a large-scale drill to enhance operational safety, and the holding of seminars and workshops aimed at training the company’s staff.

The Chairman of the Board of Directors (PCA), Celso Rosas, took the opportunity to present the company’s strategic challenges for the coming months, highlighting dredging and improving navigability, the comprehensive digitalization of processes, the optimization of assets, the consolidation of CCTV and VTS surveillance systems, as well as the restoration of critical infrastructure such as lighthouses and boats.

Another priority objective is the recovery of customer debts and the strengthening of the oversight capacity of all port operations.

The CEO emphasized the need for employees to maintain ethical standards, rejecting corrupt practices, and adhering to international ISO quality standards, for which the company is certified.

He announced an increase in the transportation subsidy from 33,000 to 50,000 kwanzas, a reinforcement aimed at alleviating employee expenses and recognizing the commitment of the workforce.

The Port of Lobito became a Landlord Port on December 11, 2023, after the concession of the multipurpose terminal (general and containerized cargo) was signed with Africa Global Logistics and the mineral terminal with the Lobito Atlantic Railway consortium.
