Africa-Press – Angola. The diplomat Maria de Jesus Ferreira delivered, this Thursday, in Lisbon, the credentials to the Portuguese Head of State, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa.
The handing over of the credentials symbolizes the beginning of her duties as an extraordinary and plenipotentiary ambassador of Angola to the Republic of Portugal.
Appointed on March 7 of this year by the President of the Republic, João Lourenço, Maria de Jesus Ferreira is the first woman to
hold the position of representative of the Angolan State in Portugal, succeeding Ambassador Carlos Alberto Fonseca.
Graduated in Law and Master in International Law, the diplomat was, in the period 2018/2023, Ambassador Extraordinary and
Plenipotentiary and Permanent Representative of Angola to the United Nations, having already performed identical functions in the Republic of Austria, with jurisdiction over the
Republic of Slovenia, Republic of Croatia and Republic of Slovakia.
He was also Consul General of Angola in the city of Porto.
Portugal is one of Angola’s main trading partners. Portuguese companies have a strong presence in the Angolan economy, fundamentally in the construction and banking sectors.
Portugal is also an important exporter of food and beverage products.
Angola, via private companies, has several investments in Portugal with activities ranging from energy, telecommunications to banking.
