Postponement of games worries president

Africa-Press – Angola. The president of the Provincial Handball Association of Luanda (APAL), Simão Cassule Filho, is concerned about the embarrassment caused by the number of delayed games in the different championships.

The senior women’s Provincial, with more than 10 games behind schedule, is the most affected by requests for adjournment. At the same time, Luanda competes in the men’s and women’s senior championships, in addition to the men’s junior competition.

“We are worried because it strangles the championship program in relation to the closing of the phases and even of the competition itself. Moreover, the clubs requesting these postponements also mess with the opponents’ schedule, without forgetting the question of sporting truth”, said the leader.

Five teams compete in the senior women’s championship, in a single group, led by Petro de Luanda, with eight wins, in an equal number of games. Maculusso, Sporting and 1º de Agosto “A” and “B” are the other entries. 1º de Agosto “A”, for example, has only played two games. One of the reasons mentioned is the fact that most of the players in the squad have been part of the junior women’s National Team that played in the African Cup of Nations, in Guinea Conakry.

In male seniors, five teams are also registered. 1º de Agosto leads, undefeated, after four rounds. Banca, Petro de Luanda and the Interclube teams “A” and “B” complete the picture.

In the junior men’s competition, six teams are registered, highlighting Interclube (national champion) and AD Madeira (runner-up). Rail, Banking, Petro and Visa are also registered.

The tests are disputed in the system all against all in three rounds. The first four classified will qualify for the “semi-final” to be played in a cross-style.

Red and black give up the competition

The men’s junior handball team of 1º de Agosto will miss the presence in the 42nd National Junior Men’s Handball Championship, to be played in Namibe, from April 8 to 17. The emblem assigned to the Angolan Armed Forces withdrew from the provincial championship in Luanda, which qualifies for the national competition.

Luanda Handball Association, organizer of the championship, that the Augustinians alleged internal problems to justify their withdrawal. It will be the first time that the military emblem, several times national champion, has failed to win a championship in its category.

In the last edition, played in Luanda, the military club was in the modest seventh position, among eight teams.

The Namibe competition has already confirmed the presence of Sporting de Cabinda, Mora do Virei (Namibe), Renascimento do Uíge, Chapesseca do Huambo, Obra da Maxinde (Malanje), Estrela do Palácio (Huíla), Bravos do Maquis (Moxico) and Sagrada Esperança (Lunda-Norte).

We await confirmations from Interclube, Madeira and Ferroviário, which may be the representatives of Luanda.
