Africa-Press – Angola. Peace, security and development in Sudan and in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) were analyzed this Monday, in Luanda, at the audience that the Angolan Head of State, João Lourenço, granted to the president of the Forum of Parliaments of the Conference International Conference on the Great Lakes Region (FP-CIRGL), Jemma Nunu Kumba.

In the Republics of Sudan and Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), member countries of the International Conference on the Great Lakes Region (ICRGL), there are currently armed conflicts motivated by political differences that have claimed human lives and created an undetermined number of refugees to neighboring countries.

By the way, in statements to the press, at the end of the audience, Jemma Nunu Kumba informed that he discussed with the Angolan statesman issues related to peace, security and development in the Great Lakes Region.

The Angolan Head of State, as acting president of the CIRGL, has been regularly informed about the evolution of the situation in the region.

“We took decisions and resolutions that dealt with the situation in the DRC and Sudan. One of them has to do with matters of cooperation between the FP-CIRGL and the Summit of Heads of State of the body, to take place shortly, in Luanda”, he explained.

Jemma Kumba, parliamentarian of the Republic of South Sudan, said that President João Lourenço received his report with “great concern”, regarding the situation of the conflict in the Republic of Sudan, which has serious consequences.

In this context, he informed that the Angolan statesman expressed his political will to support South Sudan, in order to continue efforts to mediate the conflict in the neighboring country (Sudan).

He stated that the Angolan President promised to exhort all parliaments and Heads of State, in the region, to join efforts to continue appealing to the parties, to give the opportunity for peace and put an end to the political instability that broke out in Sudan.

The President of the National Assembly, Carolina Cerqueira, witnessed the hearing which was attended by the parliamentary leaders of Kenya, Zambia and South Sudan.

The FP-CIRGL is an inter-parliamentary organization that brings together national parliaments from the 12 Member States, namely Angola, Burundi, Central African Republic (CAR), Congo, Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Kenya, Rwanda, South Sudan, Republic from Sudan, Uganda, Tanzania and Zambia.
