Africa-Press – Angola. The Organizing Committee of the 1st Constitutive Congress of PRA-JA will update data on preparations for the party’s conclave tomorrow, at a press conference to be held at the Skyna Hotel in Luanda. In the meeting with journalists, in addition to discussing the preparations for the unprecedented Congress, scheduled to take place between 19 and 22 May in Luanda, the Commission will also inform national and international public opinion about the impact of the Provincial Conferences to elect delegates to the conclave, which are still underway throughout the country.
The 1st Constitutive Congress of PRA-JA aims to elect the future president of the party. Although the organization has given the “green light” to members interested in running for office, only Abel Chivukuvuku has formalized his candidacy for the position so far.
The documents required and submitted by the representatives of Abel Chivukuvuku’s candidacy are being assessed for validation, with the Organizing Committee having set the deadline for submitting candidacies until the 25th of this month, with an additional five days to correct any errors.
“The Commission expects interested parties to submit their applications and so far has only received one indication of willingness. If some other citizens are preparing to do the same, we will be here to welcome them,” said the vice-coordinator for the Mandates Commission, Aurélio Kanjamba, in statements to journalists.
Candidacies are open, Aurélio Kanjamba recalled, and the Congress establishes rules, with party members being aware of the requirements for candidacy.
In the meantime, the Provincial Conferences of the new party are taking place throughout the country, which is electing delegates to the Congress, to launch the electoral campaign.
Abel Chivukuvuku is the current general coordinator of PRA-JA and also founder of the new party, after having been a leader of UNITA, the largest opposition party, from where he left and later led the creation of CASA-CE.
The project to create the new political organization began in 2018, with Podemos-JA, which was rejected by the Constitutional Court, and then moved forward with the presentation, in 2019, of PRA-JA, initially rejected in 2020 by the same court, culminating in its legalization four years later.
