Africa-Press – Angola. Luanda – The President of the Republic, João Lourenço, Wednesday stressed the importance of the Constitutional Court (TC) in the country’s judicial system and called for a “sense of responsibility” among judicial magistrates.

The Head of State, who was speaking at the swearing-in ceremony of the new judge of the Constitutional Court, Gilberto Farias Magalhães, emphasised the role that the high court will play in the general elections scheduled for this year.

During his speech, the Angolan President noted that in this election year, in the light of the Constitution and the Law, the Constitutional Court has an important role to play.

Within the framework of Angolan legislation, it falls to the TC, among other tasks, to administer justice in legal and constitutional matters, as well as to assess, in the last instance, the regularity and validity of elections.

In the same vein, the Constitutional Court is responsible for judging appeals lodged concerning possible irregularities in voting or the counting of votes.

At the ceremony, the statesman said he hoped that the new judge would contribute, with his knowledge and experience, to raise the performance of the Constitutional Court, wishing him success in his new duties.
