Africa-Press – Angola. The Head of State, João Lourenço, arrived this Saturday morning in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), where he will meet with his counterpart Félix Tshisekedi, as part of the mediation process he is carrying out, to remedy the current tense atmosphere between the DRC and Rwanda.

Upon arriving at N’Djili International Airport in Kinshasa, the President of the Republic, João Lourenço, was received by the Prime Minister of the Democratic Republic of Congo, Jean-Michel Sama Lukonde.

The Angolan statesman, who is also accompanied by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Téte António, comes from Kigali, in Rwanda, where he also met with President Paul Kagame in the same process.

The Head of State, João Lourenço, who is currently the president of the International Conference on the Great Lakes Region (CIRGL) and “Champion for Reconciliation and Peace in Africa”, will address, with Félix Tshisekedi, issues related to the climate of tension that the country is experiencing with neighboring Rwanda.

The climate of tension between the DRC and Rwanda has re-established itself in the relationship between the two countries in recent months, after the resumption, last March, of fighting between the DRC army and the rebel group Movimento 23 de Março, more known as M23, in eastern DRC.

The two countries accuse each other of supporting the military insurrection to destabilize each other, with Kinshasa denouncing an alleged military support of Kigali for the M23, a charge denied by Rwanda.
