Africa-Press – Angola. The President of the Republic, João Lourenço, assured, this Wednesday, the delivery, by the end of December, of the infrastructure of the Science and Technology Center of Luanda (CCL) to the Angolan society.

The Angolan Head of State, who was speaking at the end of the inspection visit to the works at the aforementioned centre, located in the lower part of the country’s capital, Luanda, expressed satisfaction with the progress of the works, which are in the order of 85 percent of execution.

For this reason, he said that society will gain an institution of great importance, especially for students.

On the other hand, he recognized the lack of professionals for the operation of the center and ensured the recruitment of national staff who will benefit from training for this purpose.

“We are going to train. A company will be responsible for hiring Angolan staff who will be able to gain knowledge for six (6) months, that is, between June and December, when we hope to be ready to use the equipment”, he underlined.

He said that all Angolans will have access to the centre, which will portray natural resources and the environment, as well as hosting various thematic spaces with cultural exhibitions from the various regions of the country.

On the occasion, President João Lourenço was dissatisfied with the progress of work on the future Pedro Maria Tonha “Pedalé” Central Hospital, which he had visited before, and said he had taken some measures to resolve the problems encountered.

The Luanda Science and Technology Center is being built on the site where the soap factory of the Companhia Geral de Angola, an industrial unit established in 1925, operated.

Implanted in an area of 9,600 square meters, the Science and Technology Center will have exhibition rooms, media library, cinema and auditoriums.

In June 2021, the President of the Republic, João Lourenço, earmarked US$50 million for the completion and equipping of the infrastructure, located in the former Soap Factory.

The public works contract for complementary restoration work, equipping, supply of equipment and exhibition modules was awarded to the company Athena Swiss AG, by direct award.
