Africa-Press – Angola. President João Lourenço stated on Thursday that non-associated gas deposits allow for higher production than gas associated with oil and better meet the growing international market demand.
Speaking to the press following the inauguration of the first non-associated natural gas plant in the municipality of Soyo in Zaire province, the head of state emphasized that the benefits of this type of exploration will be even greater from now on. He noted that natural gas is in high demand in the global market and is significantly less polluting than diesel.
The President recalled that the natural resource has a good market price and that the gains from this investment, a pioneering one in the country, should stimulate the creation of new similar projects along the coast.
“These are promising ventures for the Angolan people and for the national economy,” Lourenço said.
Benefits for the population
According to the Angolan Head of State, one of the first direct impacts on the population is the increase in job opportunities, which has already begun to be observed with the construction of the factory, where a considerable number of young Angolans have been hired.
“But many more jobs are coming, considering that the construction of a fertilizer production unit is planned right here, which will use the gas from this facility,” the president said.
João Lourenço added that national fertilizer production will be crucial for the development of agriculture, contributing to reducing costs, increasing productivity, and boosting the economy.
The president also emphasized that these projects should lead to tangible improvements in living conditions by creating more job opportunities in new industrial units.
About the project
The plant has the capacity to process approximately 350 million cubic feet of natural gas per day. It is located in the village of Kivinca Nvemba and occupies 100 hectares.
The project resulted from an investment of over 2.2 billion dollars within the framework of the New Gas Consortium (NGC), led by Azule Energy in partnership with TotalEnergies, Chevron, and Sonangol and coordinated by the National Agency of Petroleum, Gas, and Biofuels (ANPG).
Construction began in July 2022, with its official launch taking place in October 2023.
