Africa-Press – Angola. The Angolan Head of State, João Lourenço, received on Thursday, in Luanda, the letters of credentials of new resident and non-resident ambassadors, reinforcing Angola’s commitment to strengthening diplomatic relations with several countries.During the event, interactions with representatives from Brazil, Sudan, Hungary, the Vatican, Great Britain and Venezuela, Argentina, Italy, as residents, the Philippines, the Islamic Republic of Iran, the Federal Republic of Somalia, the United Republic of Tanzania and the Republic of Chad, as non-residents, stood out, addressing issues of common interest and strategic partnerships.

The Brazilian ambassador to Angola, Eugénia Barthelmess, announced that President João Lourenço will participate in the G20 Summit, which will be held later this month in Rio de Janeiro, where he will meet with President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.

The bilateral meeting will address issues of mutual interest, including the strengthening of historical relations between the two countries, emphasized by the diplomat when recalling that Brazil was the first country to recognize Angola’s independence.

Eugénia Barthelmess also highlighted the expectation of opening a Brazilian consulate general in Angola, awaiting only the authorization of the Angolan government. “We are ready to begin activities as soon as this permission is granted,” she stated.

According to the ambassador, the moment is propitious for the growth of trade exchanges and the diversification of bilateral relations, with Angola assuming a relevant position in global discussions, especially in the G20, where it will be able to present its vision on international issues. The ambassador of Sudan, Abdelraouf Amir Ali Amir, also presented his credentials to President João Lourenço and thanked Angola for its support in the peace efforts in his country. The diplomat highlighted the gravity of the crisis in Sudan, where internal conflicts cause destruction and suffering to the population. Abdelraouf Amir Ali Amir stated that cooperation between Angola and Sudan will be crucial to find solutions that benefit both peoples.

Representing Hungary, Ambassador András Fazekas reinforced the excellent friendly relations between Angola and Hungary. The diplomat highlighted Hungary’s interest in expanding partnerships in the cultural, scientific and economic areas, with a special focus on higher education. “We need to pay greater attention to the potential of economic relations between our countries,” the diplomat argued.

The Apostolic Nuncio in Angola, Kryspin Dubiel, reaffirmed the strong ties between Angola and the Vatican, noting Pope Francis’ interest in promoting development and peace in the African country. The partnership between Angola and the Holy See includes cooperation projects in the social and educational fields.

The Ambassador of the Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, Bharat Suresh, highlighted the desire to intensify political and economic cooperation between the two countries. The British diplomat committed to encouraging investment by British companies in Angola, particularly in infrastructure, an area in which the United Kingdom, through organisations such as the UKF, already works in partnership with the Angolan Government. “Angola plays a crucial role in the stability of the African region, and the United Kingdom is committed to supporting these efforts, including in the DRC and the Central African Republic,” he highlighted.

Venezuelan Ambassador Belém Teresa Orsini mentioned the strengthening of cooperation in sectors such as energy and social development, with Angola and Venezuela collaborating on projects of mutual benefit.
