President João Lourenço Returns to the Country after Taking over the AU Chairpersonship

Africa-Press – Angola. Angolan President João Lourenço returned to the country after taking over, on Saturday, Feb 15, the African Union chairpersonship, during the continental’s 38th summit of the Heads of State and Govt.

This is the first time that Angola will guide the destinies of the continental organization founded in 1963.

Upon arrival, the President of the Republic, accompanied by the First Lady, Ana Dias Lourenço, received welcome greetings from the Vice-President of the Republic, Esperança Costa, and members of the government.

After taking office, the Angolan head of state described the chairpersonship of the African Union as a victory for all Angolans.

In his acceptance speech for the presidency, João Lourenço said that he intends to launch a vast plan to attract investments and capture significant financial resources from major international partners, to implement projects linked to the construction of infrastructures on the continent.
