Africa-Press – Angola. President João Lourenço requested on Friday strict compliance with the deadlines stipulated in the contracts for the construction of the future Basilica and Sanctuary of Our Lady of Muxima in the province of Icolo e Bengo.
This information was disclosed by the Icolo e Bengo provincial governor, Auzílio Jacob, at the conclusion of the President’s fact-finding visit to the town of Muxima. The basilica and sanctuary are under construction in the municipality of Quiçama in the province of Icolo e Bengo.
This is President João Lourenço’s second visit to the site in a year, following his visit last June.
“The President said that we must now consider the projected deadlines for the end of 2026, as the challenges related to relocating residents to the new Coxe neighborhood have been resolved,” said the governor.
According to Jacob, this means that everyone involved, from the municipal administration and provincial government to the Ministries of Energy, Water, and Construction, as well as the contractors, must be aware that the project is scheduled for completion by the end of 2026 or the beginning of 2027 at the latest.
The governor highlighted the impressive infrastructure, including the construction of a Christ the King monument, a heliport, a 11-kilometer road connecting Muxima to the new Coxe neighborhood, hotels, restaurants, and an electrical substation.
Jacob said a special attention is being paid to roads that will connect the north and south of the country. These roads will facilitate the circulation of goods and services and provide access to Dr. António Agostinho Neto International Airport without passing through the province of Luanda.
He cited the construction of National Road 110 as an example. It starts in Muxima and extends to the communes of Dembachio, Cacharandanda, and Mombondo. There are also branches that lead to Cabo Ledo and the municipality of Porto Ambuím in the province of Cuanza Sul.
