President of AN highlights Dom Giovanni Gaspari's role in strengthening cooperation

Africa-Press – Angola. The President of the National Assembly, Carolina Cerqueira, highlighted, on Wednesday, the role of the Apostolic Nuncio Dom Giovanni Gaspari, in strengthening relations of cooperation and friendship between the Angolan parliament and the Vatican for the benefit of all Angolans.

In a message sent to the Apostolic Nuncio, who said goodbye to the Catholic community, in a religious ceremony at the Church of the Sagrada Família, in Luanda, Carolina Cerqueira highlighted the contribution of Dom Giovanni Gaspari through messages of encouragement for the continuation of action in favor of peace, of justice and prosperity in Angola.

“His humility and dedicated profession of faith with the most vulnerable populations, especially in the difficult years of the COVID-19 pandemic, leave indelible marks of hope, comfort and faith in the Angolan populations”, highlighted the leader of the Angolan parliament.

Carolina Cerqueira congratulated Dom Giovanni Gaspari, wishing her best wishes for the new functions assigned to him as representative of the Holy See in South Korea and Mongolia.

The farewell mass was attended by the Vice-President of the Republic, Esperança da Costa, the President of AN, Carolina Cerqueira, deputies, diplomatic corps, bishops from CEAST, as well as Catholics from the Diocese of Luanda.

Born in 1963, Dom Giovanni Gaspari, born in Abruzzo (Italy), has been a priest since 1987.

He graduated in Canon Law and obtained a degree in Moral Theology.

He joined the diplomatic service of the Holy See in 2001 and served pontifical diplomatic missions in Iran, Albania, Mexico, Lithuania and then worked for a period at the Secretariat of State, in the Section for Relations with States.

In September 2020, Pope Francis sent him as nuncio to Angola and São Tomé and Príncipe, elevating him to the dignity of archbishop.
