From the contractor, the Head of State received a guarantee that the works on the Cacuaco hospital unit, which began on 15 November last year, could be completed by the end of 2023.

With a capacity for 300 beds, the unit will have, among others, oncology, chemotherapy, radiology, dialysis, emergency services, maternity, operating theaters and a morgue for 18 corpses. The unit will also have intensive care services for all age groups.

The total value of the work is 185 million euros, 15 percent of which is financed by the Angolan government and the rest by a consortium of German and Austrian businessmen.

The structure of the social enterprise, with the exception of the block where the emergencies will work, is all made of concrete, mainly because the land is clayey.

Public Tenders In The Forge

Yesterday, the Minister of Health reaffirmed the Executive’s promise to hire around 24,000 new professionals in the sector over the next three years, with a view to strengthening health services and guaranteeing differentiated medical assistance.

Speaking to the press, at the end of the visit of the President of the Republic, João Lourenço, to the works of the general hospitals of Viana and Cacuaco, Sílvia Lutucuta announced for this month the holding of a public tender for eight thousand new professionals to be included in the health units built within the framework of the Integrated Plan for Intervention in Municipalities (PIIM), as well as others outside the scope of this project.

He referred that, of the 33 thousand professionals admitted in the last two competitions and in the additional quotas, 80 percent were placed in the municipalities.

Sílvia Lutucuta indicated that the future social enterprises, examined yesterday by the Head of State, will help to alleviate, “to a large extent”, the assistance pressure in the current reference hospitals in the province of Luanda, taking into account that the municipalities of Viana and Cacuaco are the most populous.

The official highlighted that, in the two future hospitals, “special attention” will be given to pediatric services, without neglecting primary health care: “We will continue to work on prevention and on the infrastructure of primary health care, as well as improve logistics and admissions”.

Sílvia Lutucuta defended the creation of more hospital units with differentiated services throughout the country, having also highlighted the fact that the two future units will house oncology services, to prevent citizens from traveling to the city center of Luanda.

Minister Sílvia Lutucuta asked professionals in the sector for more firmness in their work, provision of humanized services to citizens and greater adherence to the training processes available.
