President of the Republic Receives Message from DRC Counterpart

Africa-Press – Angola. Angolan Head of State João Lourenço received a message on Friday from his Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) counterpart, Félix Antoine Tshisekedi Tshilombo, regarding the prevailing situation in southern and central Africa.

The message was delivered by Ambassador-at-Large Antoine Ghonda Mangalibi, who, as President Félix Tshisekedi’s special envoy, was received in audience by the Angolan statesman.

Speaking to the press after the audience at the Presidential Palace in Luanda, the Congolese diplomat stated that the message relates to João Lourenço’s role as acting president of the International Conference on the Great Lakes Region (ICGLR) and the African Union (AU). “The content is extremely confidential, but I can say that it addresses the need to strengthen fraternity between our countries, which share a long land border and historical ties,” said Ghonda Mangalibi.

When asked about the situation in eastern DRC, President Félix Tshisekedi’s emissary stated that it was “under control” and that “the war is over, and the atmosphere is one of stability and trust,” the result of direct dialogue between the heads of state of Angola and the DRC.

According to the diplomat, stabilizing the region is a priority for both Kinshasa and Luanda, within the framework of the ICGLR and the joint mandate at the United Nations.

The Presidents of Angola and the DRC have held regular meetings and consultations to discuss issues of common interest within the framework of cooperative relations between the two countries and the peace, security, and stability of the region.
