Africa-Press – Angola. The acting rector of the Major Seminary of Christ the King in Huambo, Father Cassiano Cachitõle, this Thursday challenged priests to use Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) for the benefit of evangelization.

The religious, who was speaking on the sidelines of the scientific days of the Major Seminary of Christ the King, taking place from the 20th to the 23rd of this month, under the motto “Thinking Today about the Church of Tomorrow”, said it is essential that priests, pastors and other people at the service of evangelization, be open and prepared to the challenges of globalization.

He highlighted that the church needs to train itself to make Information and Communication Technologies, in particular, the internet, more ethical and moral, to use these instruments in the service of evangelization, taking into account their speed and effectiveness in terms of global connection.

He stressed that, despite its numerous disadvantages, it is important to properly study this phenomenon that tends to change individual culture, with emphasis on the new generation of the digital era, so that the gospel of Christ reaches them through this social environment.

The rector of the major seminary of Christ the King appealed to parents and guardians to discipline their children in the correct use of ICTs, respecting ethical, moral and religious principles, in order to have a modern and Christian society.

He informed that the scientific days of the Major Seminary of Christ the King aim to assess the level of knowledge of the church in relation to the use of social networks and to effectively use these means, without losing religious doctrinal integrity, children and new technologies , influence of new technologies on sexuality and new technologies in the context of the new evangelization.

The meeting, which brings together priests, seminarians, pastors and members of different churches in the province of Huambo, also includes the study of new Information and Communication Technologies in the integral formation of man, challenges, advantages and disadvantages, the challenge of artificial intelligence in today’s world, Intersubjective communication and the use of social networks in consecrated and priestly life.

Founded in 1947, the Major Seminary of Christ the King of the Catholic Church has contributed to the education and instruction of several citizens of Angola and other African countries, currently included in various social segments.
