Africa-Press – Angola. The Social Renewal Party (PRS) considers the 4th of April “a historic milestone”, because Angolans with “boldness, loyalty to the Fatherland, readiness, courage and patriotism, imbued with the urgency and mutual feeling between brothers of the same country, preferred sit at the table, seeking consensus to achieve peace, harmony and national reconciliation at the expense of the armed conflict that separated them for more than two decades”.
In a message, the PRS recalls that Angola achieved its sovereignty on November 11, 1975, torn from Portugal, which kept the country and its people under colonial rule for about 5 centuries, subjecting them to oppression and other vicissitudes resulting from the regime.
“With independence achieved, the country experienced the hardships of a fratricidal war that broke out in the heat of independence and came to an end on April 4, 2002, after successive failed peace accords between the government led by the MPLA and the UNITA”, reads the message.
The PRS underlines the path that still needs to be done for Angolans to fully feel the benefits of peace, but believes that the consensus reached was worth it, because it allowed the country to open the free movement of people and goods, thus contributing to the affirmation of families. “The PRS understands that peace must be the axis of the country’s political, economic, social, cultural and technical development; and the basis for the consolidation of democracy, for the strengthening of State institutions and political stability”, reads the statement. message.
