Africa-Press – Angola. The PRS candidate for President of the Republic, Benedito Daniel, promised, in the commune of Luma-Cassai, municipality of Dala (Lunda-Sul), to continue the program of monetary social transfers (Kwenda), an initiative of the current Government.
The PRS leader, who has been in the eastern region of Angola (Moxico and Lundas Sul and Norte) for four days, has been involved in various activities to “hunt” the vote, as part of the electoral campaign.
Speaking at a rally, the politician acknowledged that Kwenda is a program of the Government and not of political parties, which is why, if he wins the elections on August 24, he promises to continue and give greater scope to this financial project.
Kwenda is a program co-financed by the Angolan Government and the World Bank (WB), whose budget is estimated at over US$300 million. With a duration of three years, it covers four components, namely Social Monetary Transfers, Productive Inclusion, Municipalization of Action.
When clarifying to the population the objective of Kwenda, the politician warned that “people should avoid giving in to blackmail related to the loss of this funding, if they participate in rallies of other parties” (…).
Launched in May 2020, the program aims to minimize the poverty of vulnerable families and allocates 25,500 Kwanzas to each one, quarterly.
At the country level, Kwenda has already assisted 302 thousand 44 vulnerable families, of which 59.1 percent are headed by women.
