Africa-Press – Angola. The renewal of confidence in leader Benedito Daniel, during the 5th Congress, in October of last year, marked the activities carried out by the Social Renewal Party (PRS).Marked by some controversy, the Congress was postponed on two occasions, due to the Constitutional Court having accepted a precautionary measure filed by the candidate Sapalo António.
The Congress was also marred by the announcement of Sapalo António’s withdrawal, who alleged profound disagreements with the organization of the event, and also by the rejection of the candidacy of Gaspar Fernandes, due to the fact that he had not been a member for more than 15 years.
The Congress was attended by more than a thousand delegates, and the event also served as the election of 241 members of the Central Committee, who approved the minutes and report of the previous congress and defined the party’s strategies and programs. Benedito Daniel highlighted, on the occasion, the defense of federalism “as a system for a fair distribution of wealth and social justice” and acknowledged “being aware of the challenges that the new mandate will face”.
The PRS leader also revealed the installation of local power and local elections as the target of the congressmen.
