Africa-Press – Angola. The writer John Bella considered, this Friday, in Luanda, the sovereign of the Kingdoms of Matamba and Ndongo, Queen Njinga Mbandi, as the forerunner of the resistance struggle against evasion and foreign occupation and an unavoidable figure in the country and the world.

Speaking to press, in the presentation of the work “The decisive steps of Queen Njinga”, of his authorship, he recognized the bravery of the sovereign during the Portuguese colonization.

According to the author, Njinga Mbandi marks a very important stage in the struggle of African peoples, particularly Angola, against evasion and foreign occupation.

For the author, the presentation of the book, on the eve of the date of commemoration of the beginning of the Armed Struggle (4 February), represents a full tribute for his contribution to the liberation of African peoples.

“There is an urgent need to disseminate more internally the historical path of the sovereign, in order to immortalize her as a figure of great relevance in all contexts”, he clarified.

In turn, the municipal administrator of Talatona, Rui Duarte, recognized the Queen’s bravery during colonization as a symbol of resistance in the struggle against occupation, but also as a heroine for her unique contribution to the emancipation of her subjects.

The work presents the fierce battles, agreements, war and peace strategies, the wisdom and intelligence of the sovereign of the Kingdoms of Ndongo and Matamba, among others.

With more than 500 pages, of the romance genre, focused on the life of Queen Njinga, it has the seal of approval of Editora das Letras, in partnership with the Union of Angolan Writers (UEA).

In a first phase, 3,000 copies are available, with a cover illustration by artist Nelo Tumbula and a preface by Brazilian writer and historian Mariana Bracks Fonseca.

The author debuted in the novel genre in 2011, with “The First Steps of Queen Njinga”. The following year he released the second novel in the series, “The Return of Queen Njinga”.

The two books earned the writer national and international recognition, namely the Diploma of Personality of Cultural Importance from Bahia, Brazil, among other awards.

John Bella, literary pseudonym of Jorge Marques Bela, was born in Sambizanga, in Luanda. He is a member of the Union of Angolan Writers.

Politicians, writers and diplomats attended the event, among others, with emphasis on the first Cuban ambassador to Angola (1975 to 1977 ), the writer Oscar Oliva.
