Africa-Press – Angola. At least 62 peasant women, belonging to Cooperativa Kakaluca, in the municipality of Quiçama, province of Luanda, are enrolled in literacy classes, for the academic year 2022/2023, as part of the project “Method to enjoy reading and writing”.

Promoted by the provincial directorates of Social Action and Education in Luanda, the project will allow the aforementioned women to attend classes in modules 1 and 2, inside two jangos, in the neighborhood of Mulemba, spaces presented yesterday, in an act witnessed by the municipal administrator of Quiçama, Marta Mendes Amaro.

The provincial director of Social Action in Luanda said that literacy training will be carried out by two facilitators (teachers), following a training course for trainers, under the guidance of the Municipal Education Directorate of Quiçama.

As for the classes given in a single period (morning), Antónia Ferreira said that the authorities intend to allow the peasant women to continue their farming activity after classes.

“Literacy classes, for the academic year 2022/2023, will be a reality largely because of the Kakaluca cooperative, to which the peasant women belong”, he said, adding that the project was delayed due to lack of availability of material.

Antónia Ferreira guaranteed that the project “Method to enjoy reading and writing” will cover other locations in Luanda, where families live in vulnerable situations and with a high rate of illiteracy among women, with the municipality of Icolo and Bengo being the next one to be contemplated.

Yesterday, the symbolic delivery of school manuals such as books, notebooks, charcoal pencils, erasers and paintings was made, in addition to basic necessities, especially pasta and cooking oil, corn flour, mattresses and crutches.
