Africa-Press – Angola. Five hundred and fifty-one families, totaling 3,426 people, were made homeless in 2022, in Bié province, with the destruction of 571 resistances caused by rain, accompanied by strong winds.

The rain also destroyed six stores, an equal number of schools, seven churches, nine barns, two police units, a jango, four public lighting poles, the MPLA action committee in Cuito, among others, with damage estimated at 106 million 694 thousand kwanzas.

The data are contained in a note from the Government of Bié, distributed yesterday during its 1st ordinary meeting.

Victims were supported with civil construction material (zinc sheets, nails and others) for the construction of their homes in safe areas, as well as essential goods.

The provincial government, the document reads, appeals, however, to the general population not to build houses in places considered at risk (river banks, ravines, high and medium attention electricity stations).

Just last year, the civil protection services and firefighters in Bié recorded the deaths of 14 people and four others were injured, victims of electrical discharges, five less deaths compared to the same period last year.

It also notified 135 fires of various proportions, one less compared to 2021, with damages estimated at 114 million 840 thousand and 500 kwanzas, plus 70 million 397 thousand 800 kwanzas compared to the previous period.

Arson and short circuit fires are causes of fires.

In the period in question, this body also registered 144 citizens who were victims of road and rail accidents.

Governor worried about rising crime

The governor of Bié province, Pereira Alfredo, defended a more serious commitment to the social sector, with emphasis on education and the promotion of employment, to combat the crime rate.

Speaking this Tuesday, in the city of Cuito, at the first ordinary meeting of the provincial government, Pereira Alfredo considered important the support of families and society in denouncing criminal acts.

According to him, the fight against crime is everyone’s task, and not just the National Police (PN), calling for the strengthening of proximity policing for better results.

In Bié, in 2022, the National Police became aware of three thousand and 20 different crimes, such as homicides, simple bodily harm, vandalism of public property, theft and theft of goods and others, 446 less compared to 2021, with two thousand 674 clarified.

As a result of the transgressions, in 2022, 2,194 citizens were arrested as presumed perpetrators.

Cuito leads with 1,895 crimes, followed by Andulo (269), Chingarar (262), Nhârea (135), Cunhinga and Camacupa, with 124 crimes each, Catabola (82), Cuemba (80) and Chitembo (49).

With the presence of municipal administrators, the 1st ordinary meeting of the provincial Government analyzed the damage caused by the rain, the operational situation, proposals for the 2023 annual plan of activities of the Government and the script for land legalization, for the creation of the multisectoral commission for the regularization of legal status of real estate in favor of the State and others.

Government members were also informed about the situation of covid-19, the third phase of the public tender for access 2021/2023 and the position of director and head of the education sector, quality of bread consumed in the province and others.
