Africa-Press – Angola. The re-elected President of Turkey, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, was sworn in this Saturday, in Ankara, for a new five-year term, in a ceremony witnessed by the Vice-President of Angola, Esperança da Costa.
In front of more than a dozen guest statesmen, Erdogan swore an oath to the Turkish people, to which he promised, for this new mandate, an increasingly united Turkey without discrimination of color or race.
The re-elected Head of State also promised a country without ethnic discrimination and called for the contribution and unity of the approximately 85 million Turks.
“As a nation we need to re-establish strong unity”, expressed the President, for whom the country has entered a new path with the closing of the polls and the announcement of the election results.
The investiture ceremony was marked, in addition to the inauguration speech, by a moment of gratitude to the Turkish people, for the “magnificent wave of love that overflowed through the streets”.
From humble beginnings, Erdogan has become an important political figure in Türkiye. He has been at the forefront of the country’s destiny for 20 years, standing out for the reforms implemented during that period.
Born in February 1954, Recep Tayyip Erdogan is the son of a coast guard.
When he was 13, his father decided to move to Istanbul, hoping to give his five children a better education.
He attended an Islamic school before earning a degree in business from Istanbul’s Marmara University and playing football professionally.
From 2003, he served three terms as prime minister, presiding over a period of economic growth and stability.
At that stage, the Turkish middle class expanded and millions of citizens were lifted out of poverty, with Erdogan prioritizing large infrastructure projects that modernized the country.
