Africa-Press – Angola. The rector of Mandume Ya Ndemufayo University (UMN), Orlando da Mata, defended, Thursday (14), in the city of Lubango, the continuous training of teachers and academic differentiation in masters and doctorates as a guarantee of the quality of higher education.

Orlando da Mata, who was speaking at the award ceremony for 853 graduates in the areas of Medicine, Economics, Law, Mechanical Engineering, Civil Construction, Agronomy, Informatics, Computer Sciences, Animal Science and Design, drew attention that the number is insufficient to ensure the formation of cadres.

Orlando da Mata recognized that academic institutions may have state-of-the-art laboratories or the best infrastructure, but without properly prepared and trained teachers it is impossible to form good staff.

Balancing the last seven years, when the UMN began to award its own degrees, the dean added that 13,896 graduate students had already graduated.

During this period, he added, 43 students received their first graduates with a master’s degree in the areas of Law (Faculty of Law) and Accounting and Business Finance, Entrepreneurship and Business Development (Faculty of Economics).

He clarified that, with the holding of two public tenders, the problem of lack of national teachers was minimized, which allowed the replacement of foreign labor at the Instituto Superior Politécnico and the Faculty of Medicine.

The diploma award ceremony was attended by the deputy provincial governor of Huíla for the Technical and Infrastructure sector, Hélio de Almeida.
