Africa-Press – Angola. The Region Five Table Tennis Championship, initially scheduled from 12 to 17 April, was rescheduled for the months of June or July, in Johannesburg, South Africa, by the Confederation that governs the sport in the area.

The president of the Angolan Table Tennis Federation (FATM), Manuel Morais, said that the competition is a qualifier for the ‘2023 World Cup, also scheduled for South Africa.

The test, he explained, was postponed due to the low enrollment of members who make up Region Five. “The Confederation of Region Five sent us a document, reporting a number of factors on the postponement,” she added.

Regarding the preparation of the senior and junior National Pre-Selection, for both sexes, he underlined that work began on the 21st of February. They take place from 8:30 am to 10:30 am and from 3:00 pm to 5:30 pm on Monday, Wednesday and Friday, at the Angola High Performance Center (CARA), at Cidadela Desportiva, in Luanda, from 8:30 am to 10:30 am and from 3:00 pm to 5:30 pm.

For “Operação Johannesburgo”, coaches Manuel Pimenta and António Lemos work with 15 tennis players. In male seniors, the shortlisted are Edvane Neto, José Domingos, Domingos Manuel, Hermenegildo Ângelo and Délcio Cassule (individuals), Elizandro André, from Caetano e Filhos and Francisco Fernandes from Escorpões de Viana, in the juniors, are Duarte Bartolo, from Benfica do Namibe, and Luís Mudil (Escorpões).

In the female sector, highlight to Isabel Albino, Jerusa Borges (individuals) and Kailane de Sousa (Scorpions), all in the senior class. The technicians also work with the juniors, Eugénia Simões (Escorpions), Catarina Gaspar and Cândida Simões, both individual.

In this preparation phase, according to the national coach, António Lemos, the work is focused on the technical and tactical component.
