Africa-Press – Angola. Religious leaders in the province of Cuanza-Sul urged, in the city of Sumbe, the Angolan people to continue to promote the culture of forgiveness and respect for others, in order to safeguard social harmony.
The appeal was made, Sunday, during the ecumenical service held in allusion to the 47th anniversary of National Independence, to be marked on Friday (11 November).
During the service, the leaders of the Christian churches appealed for the preservation of the gains of National Independence, peace and unity, so that the country continues to walk towards social and economic development.
They also defended the need to fight drugs and prostitution, as well as other ills that plague Angolan society, especially the youth.
On the occasion, the representative of the Inter-Ecclesial Commission in Cuanza-Sul, Joaquim Alexandre Francisco, quoted by Angop, stressed that the ecumenical worship aimed to celebrate the 47th anniversary of Angola’s Independence and to talk about the role of churches in this process.
“We welcome the realization of this cult, which aimed to promote the culture of forgiveness and respect for others, highlighting the importance of preserving National Independence and the benefits of this achievement”, he added.
The deputy governor of Cuanza-Sul for the Political, Economic and Social Sector, Emília Tchinawalile, members of the Government, representatives of political parties and civil society, traditional authorities, as well as more than 30 religious denominations and ecclesiastical associations based in in the province.
