Africa-Press – Angola. The second demining brigade assigned to the Presidency of the Republic removed 40 explosive devices in Benguela during the first quarter of this year.

The data were made public by the demining coordinator, Alberto Camacoco, who said that the explosives removal work was carried out in the municipalities of Ganda, Cubal and Caimbambo.

According to the specialist, among the explosive devices removed from January to March of this year, grenades and mines stand out.

He added that, on the basis of the strategic plan for the development of localities and within the framework of the program to combat poverty, the Provincial Office of Agriculture and Fisheries intends to use the areas freed from mines in the process of stimulating family farming, to promote the production of goods and provide employment opportunities in the agricultural sector.

Last December, the National Demining Institute (INAD) removed and destroyed 18,544 explosive devices, following work that ended with the cleaning of 240,889 square meters in Benguela province.

The liberated areas are located in the commune of Culango, municipality of Lobito, village of Talamajamba, in the municipality of Benguela, and others in the municipalities of Caimbambo, Bocoio and BaĆ­a-Farta.

He informed that the institutions that work in the process of removing explosive devices in the province of Benguela have intensified the actions of signaling the places still considered suspicious and of raising awareness among the population, to avoid accidents with mines.
