Africa-Press – Angola. The increase in the price of chicken feed on the market in the province of Huíla is limiting egg production in the only poultry farm in the municipality of Curoca, province of Cunene, which has 775 birds.

According to the owner of this aviary, Osvaldo Candeeiro, currently, a 30 kilo bag of feed costs 16 thousand and 500 kwanzas, compared to the previous Kz 14 thousand and 300.

The poultry farmer recalled that the cost of this product still becomes increasingly high with the addition of the price of transport, which leaves from the city of Lubango (Huíla) to Curoca.

He mentioned that, to feed the chickens, the poultry farm needs 60 kilos of feed/day.

According to Osvaldo Candeeiro, the rise in the price of chicken feed is influencing the drop in production, which is currently around 200 eggs/day, compared to 500 previously.

Alongside the price increase, the poultry breeder also pointed out the poor condition of the Oncócua/Otchinjau section, which connects to the city of Ondjiva, as another constraint that makes it difficult to sell eggs.

For his part, the director of the provincial office for Integrated Economic Development of Cunene, Felisberto Hisimongula, defended the need to invest in the feed sales business, to alleviate current difficulties and encourage the emergence of new poultry farms, with a view to making the more sustainable egg market.

He mentioned that the province has three poultry farms, two in Ondjiva and one in Curoca.

The municipality of Curoca, which is 350 kilometers from the city of Ondjiva, capital of Cunene, has a population of 56 thousand inhabitants.
