Africa-Press – Angola. The wake of Angolan nationalist Rui Mingas, who died this Thursday, in Lisbon, Portugal, victim of illness, at the age of 84, has been open since Sunday, at his residence on Rua Cabral Moncada, Urban district of Maianga, municipality of Luanda, in the country’s capital.
According to a note from the family, published on social media, Rui Mingas’ family and friends announced that their loved one’s wake was opened at 11am on Sunday at his home in Luanda, located on Rua Cabral Moncada.
Hours after the death of the “musician, sportsman and politician”, the President of the Republic, João Lourenço, considered Rui Mingas to be a personality of great prestige, who on several fronts and in different roles represented the country with talent, competence and dignity.
“His passing impoverishes our country and leaves his family and a vast legion of friends and co-workers in mourning. To everyone, in particular his widow and children, we express our condolences and our feelings of regret”, reads the message from the Angolan statesman.
In turn, the president of AN, Carolina Cerqueira, highlighted that Rui Mingas’ work will endure in the collective memory of Angolans, highlighting that the country lost a good son, but his legacy remains in the annals of history and in the hearts of all.
Zaire
In the face of the disaster, Angolan society has expressed deep dismay, as is the case of the governor of the province of Zaire, Adriano Mendes de Carvalho, who lamented the death of the nationalist and considered Rui Mingas a human library, a diplomat and a man of culture.
He highlighted that Rui Mingas is and will always be an unavoidable figure in Angolan culture, given his rich contribution to its appreciation and promotion.
Benguela
In Benguela, several figures from the sporting and cultural scene praised the work of Angolan musician and composer Rui Mingas.
The director of the Damba Maria theater group, Adérito Tchiuca, highlighted the unsuccessful actor’s contribution to the fight for national independence and to the preservation and appreciation of Angolanity.
The actor also highlights that Rui Mingas stood out in the musical panorama for his unique composition and melody line, which appealed to the origins of the Angolan people and the values of national culture, so that they do not disappear.
Romualdo Nguenga, former referee and current commissioner of the National Arbitration Council, confirms that the greatest achievements in national sport were recorded while Rui Mingas was Secretary of State for Physical Education and Sport, for around 16 years.
Hence, it should be emphasized that his death represents a great loss for the country on a political, cultural and sporting level, adding that Rui Mingas still had a lot to give to the nation’s development.
Cuanza-Norte
The Provincial Government of Cuanza-Norte expressed “deep consternation” at the death of the nationalist and eminent man of Culture, Ruy Mingas, in Lisbon, victim of illness.
In a message of condolences, he states that it was with deep pain and consternation that the government of Cuanza-Norte became aware of the unfortunate event, stressing that the deceased worked tirelessly, as an intrepid leader and committed to the just cause of the Angolan people and that He knew how to serve with a deep patriotic feeling, zeal, pride and dedication.
Cunene
The artistic class in the province of Cunene highlighted the cultural dimension and importance of the music of Angolan Ruy, co-author of the National Anthem.
Reacting to the death of fellow nationalist, musician Mindo Lopes, he said that the musical works performed by Ruy Mingas enhanced national culture, fundamental to the country’s freedom and emancipation.
He said that despite leaving the world of the living, his achievements in the cultural mosaic must be followed and preserved as a way of paying honor and valuing his greatness in the national and international context.
Historian Avelino Dino described the legacy of musician and nationalist Rui Mingas before, during and after independence, which should serve as inspiration for new generations.
He recalled that his political conduct as an active MPLA activist led him to musicalize poems by Angolan nationalists such as Viriato da Cruz, Agostinho Neto, Mário António, António Jacinto, among others.
Rui Alberto Vieira Dias Rodrigues Mingas was an Angolan singer, composer, diplomat, businessman and politician.
He was a deputy of the MPLA Parliamentary Group, Secretary with the status of Minister of Sports and ambassador of Angola to Portugal.
On July 26, 1995, he was awarded the degree of Grand Cross of the Order of Infante D. Henrique, of Portugal.
In 2002, he formed a business association with Paulo Múrias and the “Minerva Foundation – Culture – Teaching and Scientific Research”.
