Russia Announces New Military Cooperation Strategy with Angola

Africa-Press – Angola. The Armed Forces of the Russian Federation will provide consultancy to its Angolan counterpart, FAA, related to military construction engineering, readiness and increasing combat capability, so that it can face current security challenges.

The information was released Wednesday, in this city by the main military officer of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation in Angola, Major General, Hartchenco Vladislav Levguenievitchi, during a meeting held with the Government of Huila.

The general officer appointed three months ago by President Vladimir Putin, began today, Wednesday, a cycle of visits to the military regions of Angola, to “evaluate and provide all necessary assistance to the commands and military personnel.”

He stated that although a process of resizing and restructuring the FAA is currently underway, there are also new challenges and it is an obligation of the security agencies to prevent direct threats to Angola.

“I will work with the commands of the country’s military regions to provide all necessary consultative assistance, reveal some problems that exist and at the same time develop guides to solve these problems,” he said.

He stressed that the Russian Armed Forces have accumulated extensive experience and have managed to create more modern combat systems, which is why his country will share such knowledge with Angola, with emphasis on the forms and methods of military organization.

Hartchenco Vladislav Levguenievitchi congratulated Angolans on their 50th anniversary of Independence, and praised the level of cleanliness and public order in the city of Lubango, which “many countries should take as an example.”

In turn, the acting governor of Huila, Maria João Chipalavela, highlighted the consultant’s visit to the province, which was once called the 5th Region, having been the main buffer zone in southern Angola at the time of the South African invasion.

“You will find many things in common with your activities in the Southern Military Region, in the Air Force. Our two countries have a deep and very friendly relationship. We have many military personnel trained in Russia,” he said.

The visit of all military regions, and the Southern Military Region was the first, with the facilities based in Huila, namely the Southern Military Region Command and the Southern Air Region Command.
