Africa-Press – Angola. The President of the Republic, João Lourenço, defended, in the city of Praia, Cape Verde, the creation of a neutral, credible international mediation team that is accepted by Russia and Ukraine as one of the ways to put an end to the reigning conflict between the two countries.
The Angolan statesman pointed this way, yesterday, when he was speaking, on the occasion of the official banquet offered by his Cape Verdean counterpart, José Maria Pereira Neves, at the Presidential Palace. “We trust in a neutral and credible international mediation that is accepted by Russia and Ukraine and that contributes to reaching a definitive ceasefire and the opening of extended negotiations for a lasting peace for the entire European space”, he said.
The Head of State greeted and encouraged all world leaders who tirelessly engage in multiple diplomatic contacts in the pursuit of peace and security in Europe. “As we have always done with the victims of other conflicts in Africa, the Middle East and in other corners of the world, today we also extend our solidarity with the civilian victims of the conflict that is ravaging Ukrainian territory”, underlined João Lourenço.
The President considered this moment that Europe is experiencing worrying, due to the repercussions that could arise, if there is no restraint on the part of those directly involved and world leaders, in general.
“Perhaps, in recent years, there has been an opportunity to dialogue and negotiate to prevent war, but since it was not possible to do so before, there is a need, today, to avoid, at all costs, the escalation conflict, never to reach the point of no return”, he clarified.
