Africa-Press – Angola. The Russian ambassador to Angola, Vladimir Tararov, reiterated this Friday that his country will maintain the partnership with Angola in the space area, guaranteeing support to the program after the successful completion of the Angosat-2 project.
According to the diplomat, who was speaking on the sidelines of the inauguration ceremony of the Satellite Control and Mission Centre, after the delivery of the Angosat-2, other opportunities open up between the two countries in the field of terrestrial communication.
He stated that Angola has a satellite with different capacities, which can be used, not only for telecommunications, but also for solving different tasks, both for the country and for the whole continent.
“We fulfilled that contract and delivered the satellite to the Angolan side. And to open up all the technical possibilities of satellites, we have to install more terrestrial components”, he stated.
Within the framework of this cooperation, he highlighted the benefits for the areas of telecommunications, industry development, the creation of more economic and social programs and jobs for young people, having reiterated the availability of 300 study grants for Angolans.
According to Vladimir Tararov, there are already other partners who have shown interest in taking advantage of the capabilities of the Angosat-2 satellite to expand scientific cooperation with Angola.
As part of the inauguration of the Satellite Control and Mission Centre, the Russian Embassy awarded diplomas and medals to senior Angolan staff who contributed to the success of the Angosat-2 project.
Among those honored are the Minister of Telecommunications, Technologies and Information and Social Communication, Mário Oliveira, and the governors of Luanda and Uíge, respectively, Manuel Homem and José da Rocha, former ministers of the sector, as well as staff from the Management Office of the National Space Program (GGPEN).
On the same occasion, the ambassador of the United States of America, Tulinabo Mushingi, said that satellites should help resolve community programs in the most varied domains, such as drought.
“I’m here to represent the American people, represent my country at this event, and, as we say in the United States, it’s a small step for Angola and a big step for humanity,” he said.
For Tulinabo Mushingi, Angosat-2 represents a lot, stressing that the data to be transmitted from different satellites can help in different domains and solve community problems.
“Technology is democratic. If today President Biden is using the internet, it is the same internet that (President) Vladimir Putin is using and you are using”, said the ambassador, to clarify that the technology must be accessible to everyone.
