Africa-Press – Angola. The secretary general of the SADC Parliamentary Forum (FP), Boemo Sekgoma, requested Tuesday, in Luanda, Angola’s continued leadership in mobilizing other countries, to sign the treaty relating to the automatic transformation of this body into Regional Parliament.
Boemo Sekgoma made this statement after a hearing with the president of the National Assembly, Carolina Cerqueira, which served to review regional cooperation, relating to the SADC parliament, and the preparation of the 55th plenary to take place in the country and aimed at renewable energy.
Likewise, the meeting aimed to reaffirm the National Assembly’s commitment to the SADC Parliamentary Forum, as well as Angola’s commitment to climate issues in the region.
According to the official, currently, nine countries have already signed the treaty, with Zambia being in the process of initialing it.
According to the secretary, there are only two countries left to complete the process, which will allow the transformation of the Parliamentary Forum into a regional Parliament.
Accordingly, she said that she has every confidence in Angolan law as it is a respected country in the region.
On the other hand, he informed that Angola will host, from the 1st to the 7th of July, the 16 member countries of the Southern African Development Community (SADC) during a symposium in which the members will address the policies that States must prepare in the environmental field.
It is necessary to review policies in SADC regarding renewable energy in order to make the environment more friendly, he said.
