Africa-Press – Angola. The President of the Republic, João Lourenço, learned, on Thursday, about the state of construction works for the future Science Center of Luanda, an institution whose mission will be to popularize scientific and technological knowledge in the country.

João Lourenço, who visited the space for the second time, toured the areas, as he received detailed explanations from the technical team about the evolution of the project. It was confirmed to the President of the Republic that the Center will be operational from 2023 and is being equipped with modern technical conditions in line with world standards, to allow specialized research to be carried out.

The Government intends to stimulate and cultivate interest in science and technology, especially among young people. The center, which will have administrative, financial and patrimonial autonomy, will also portray Angola’s natural resources and issues related to the environment and health.

Installed in the former Fábrica de Sabão, in Largo do Baleizão, the Science Center of Luanda will have several themed spaces, with emphasis on the Yetu space, which means “our” in the national Kimbundu language. It is a room that will have a permanent exhibition, displaying the culture of various regions of the country.

It will also have a room for the exhibition of dinosaur replicas, called the Wau space, dedicated to the dissemination of global science such as the phenomena of physics and chemistry. It will also have a mini soap factory, in honor of the old facilities, allowing visitors to learn about the soap production process.

The Minister of Higher Education, Science, Technology and Innovation, Maria do Rosário Sambo, explained, by the way, that the staff admission process is in progress.

The director general of the Office of Special Works, Leonel Pinto da Cruz, said that the project will be completed in July 2023. The Luanda Science Center, which will have several compartments, has about 6000 thousand square meters, an exhibition area of about 230 models and is considered a medium standard institution, worldwide.
