Africa-Press – Angola. The Secretary of State for Science, Technology and Innovation, Alice Pinto de Ceita, defended, this Tuesday, that governments, companies and society, in general, work together to combat illegal practices, such as piracy, in order to promote a culture of respect for copyright.
Speaking at a seminar on the functioning of the national system of intellectual property, the official considered that copyright protection will allow creators to have greater control over the use and distribution of their works, in addition to encouraging the creation of new content and stimulating the innovation and cultural development.
According to the source, it is necessary to find a balance between copyright protection and access to information, underlining that the dissemination of knowledge is fundamental for the progress of society.
In this domain, it proposed the establishment of limits and exceptions to copyright, in order to allow the legitimate use of works, for educational purposes, research, criticism and other matters of public interest.
He recalled that copyrights give creators the possibility of obtaining return with their work, which is essential to encourage new creations and sustain the creative industry.
On his turn, the director of the National Copyright and Related Rights Service (SENADIAC), Barros Licencia, defended the adoption of public policies that stimulate the absorption of innovations by the productive sector and services.
To this end, it considered it necessary to establish rules for the division of intellectual property rights between agents and intervening bodies.
The objective of the meeting was to clarify to the sector’s staff and agents about how the National Intellectual Property System is structured, organized and functioning, the intervening institutions and their respective roles in the system, aiming at the best use and exploitation of the same.
