Africa-Press – Angola. The segregation works of the Luanda Railway (CFL), on the Bungo – Dr. António Agostinho Neto International Airport (AIAAN) railway section, have a degree of physical execution of 87.4 percent, the Minister of Transport said on Wednesday in Luanda.
The CFL segregation project aims to ensure greater fluidity and safety in the circulation of trains, eliminating conflicts between rail and road/pedestrian traffic, significantly improving urban mobility in the Angolan capital and access to the new international airport.
According to a statement, the governor traveled the entire length of the track, in both directions, by train to assess the technical and safety conditions with a view to reopening rail traffic on that strategic route.
The note stresses that the current progress is the result of progress on several work fronts, with emphasis on pedestrian overpasses, where one of the 15 new pedestrian crossings planned has already been completed, while in the rehabilitation chapter, 12 of the 27 structures contemplated have been fully recovered.
By the way and according to the document, on the occasion, the minister pointed out the release of spaces in the municipalities of Ingombota, Sambizanga, Rangel, Cazenga and the Mulenvos area as one of the main obstacles to the completion of pedestrian P1, P2, P4, P5 and P8.
“It is essential to overcome the remaining obstacles, namely by completing the processes of freeing up spaces and strengthening security against acts of vandalism”, he asserted.
The document highlights that, during the field trip of the holder of the Transport portfolio, it was possible to verify some constraints, specifically, damage resulting from vandalism and waste along the section, affecting the work schedule, due to the constant theft of barbed wire and metal props intended for the fence of the railway perimeter.
Another constraint identified is related to the disorderly deposit of solid waste along the corridor, especially near the protective walls and rehabilitation areas.
To reverse the situation, the Minister of Transport points out as a solution greater articulation with municipal administrations and public order forces to strengthen surveillance and ensure the integrity of infrastructures.
