Africa-Press – Angola. A 48-year-old Angolan citizen was arrested last weekend by the Criminal Investigation Service (SIC) in the municipality of Mbanza-Kongo, northern province of Zaire, for allegedly aiding illegal immigration.

According to the SIC spokesperson in that province, José Bernardo Bebeto, on Monday (21) statements, the accused was arrested at his residence in the 11 de Novembro neighborhood, where he was with three citizens from the neighboring Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), in an irregular migratory situation.

He explained that the arrest of this national and the three illegal immigrants is the result of a micro-operation carried out by SIC officers in Zaire.

He added that the aforementioned foreigners entered the national territory through clandestine routes at the land border of the municipality of Luvo and were to be headed for the country’s capital, Luanda.

“They paid 100,000 kwanzas each to the alleged guide or facilitator to reach the country’s capital”, explained the spokesperson, adding that the three foreign citizens had already paid 150,000 kwanzas, while the remaining 150,000 were to be paid after crossing the police post at the Loge River, the border area between the provinces of Zaire and Bengo (USD 1 = 912 Kz).

José Bernardo Bebeto said that during the arrest, SIC officers managed to seize 70,000 kwanzas that were in the possession of the alleged guide.

Five municipalities in the province of Zaire share a border with the DRC, namely Luvo, Soyo, Cuimba, Nóqui and Quêlo, extending for 310 kilometers.
