Africa-Press – Angola. The Criminal Investigation Service (SIC) in Lunda Norte seized, over the weekend, around nine diamond stones of different carats, for possession and attempted illicit trafficking of the strategic mineral.
The information was provided this Monday, by the technician from the Institutional Communication and Press office of the provincial Command of the National Police, Alexandre Pereira, highlighting that the diamonds were in the possession of a citizen, whose nationality has not been revealed so far, adding that four thousand and 790 (4,790) US dollars were also seized.
He said that the seizure of the diamonds resulted from a micro-operation carried out by the various forces of the Ministry of the Interior, in the municipalities of Lucapa, Chitato, Cambulo and Cuango, which aimed to combat illegal immigration, diamond mining, minor trafficking, smuggling of fuel, among other crimes.
He made it known that the operation allowed the frustration of an attempted smuggling of two thousand and 460 liters of fuel, which was destined for the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
He informed that the diamonds, the monetary values and the fuel, will be delivered to the General Tax Administration (AGT), the Attorney General’s Office (PGR) and the “Operation Transparency” Registration Commission, as faithful custodians.
He also highlighted the detention of 668 foreign citizens from the DRC, for attempting to enter and exit the country illegally, through the border posts of Caungula, Cuango, Lóvua, Chitato and Cambulo.
After the interview and subsequent registration, he continued, the immigrants were immediately repatriated to their country of origin.
