Africa-Press – Angola. The results of the 2024 Census indicate that only 3.6% of the population of Huíla is elderly, over 65 years of age, while those from zero to 14 represent 45.1%, which reveals a significant gap between the two age groups.
However, an increase in the proportion of elderly people was observed in the last decade, given that in the 2014 Census only 2% of the population was aged 65 or over, showing a gradual trend of demographic aging.
According to the results presented at the beginning of the month and shown on the official website of the National Statistics Institute (INE), the population residing in Huíla aged between zero and 14 represents 45.1%, that is, four out of every 10 people are under 15 years old.
The municipalities that record the highest percentages of population in this age group are Capunda Cavilongo (50.7%) and Chituto (49.4%), both emerging from the new Political-Administrative Division. At the opposite extreme is the municipality of Lubango, with 39.9 percent.
In the case of the elderly population, the municipalities of Matala and Palanca (the latter also new) have the lowest proportions, while those of Caconda, Viti Vivali (new) and Chicomba have the highest values, each with 5 percent.
The Definitive Results of the 2024 Census show that the population residing in Huíla on September 19, 2024 (census period) was three million 302 thousand 866 inhabitants, one million 599 thousand 066 men (48.4% of the total population) and one million 703 thousand 799 women (51.2%).
In the last 10 years, the resident population in Huíla increased from two million 497 thousand 422 inhabitants (2014 Census) to three million 302 thousand 866 inhabitants (2024 Census), which corresponds to a growth rate of 2.8% in this inter-censal period. MS/DOJ

Fosso entre população jovem e idosa na Huíla é significativo – Censo
Lubango – Os resultados do Censo 2024 indicam que só 3,6% da população da Huíla é idosa, acima dos 65 anos de idade, enquanto a dos zero aos 14 representa 45,1%, o que revela um fosso significativo entre as duas faixas etárias.
Contudo, observou-se um aumento da proporção de idosos na última década, dado que no Censo de 2014 apenas 2% da população tinha 65 ou mais anos, evidenciando uma tendência gradual de envelhecimento demográfico.
De acordo com os resultados apresentados no início do mês e patentes na página oficial do Instituto Nacional de Estatísticas (INE), a população residente na Huíla com idades entre os zero e 14 anos representa 45,1%, ou seja, quatro em cada 10 pessoas têm menos de 15 anos.
Os municípios que registam as maiores percentagens de população nessa faixa etária são os de Capunda Cavilongo (50,7%) e o Chituto (49,4%), ambos emersos da nova Divisão Político-Administrativa. No extremo oposto, encontra-se o município do Lubango, com 39,9 por cento.
